EndChildAbuseNiagara.com - a valuable resource about child abuse and neglect
With Child Abuse Prevention Month coming to a close at the end of October, it’s important to remember that every day and every month should be child abuse prevention month. Keeping kids safe is a community responsibility, and ongoing education is key.
PECAN or Partners to End Child Abuse Niagara recently developed EndChildAbuseNiagara.com, a web site that provides helpful information about programs in Niagara that address the problem of child abuse and neglect. It is a one stop shop for anyone seeking resources of this nature. Any reports of abuse can be made directly to FACS (Family and Children’s Services) Niagara.
A made-in-Niagara solution with input from 14 local agencies, PECAN is an easily accessible platform, providing information and offering connections to various sources of assistance in the community.
Launched in March of this year, PECAN continues to raise awareness in a safe and confidential environment, about a topic that is often avoided. Initiated by a committee hosted by the Kristen French Child Advocacy Centre Niagara, PECAN combines the expertise of local agencies and offers easy access to the public.
“A visit to the PECAN web site can answer any questions and help you decide what service or program is best to meet your particular needs,” said PECAN chair, Andrea Jack, a volunteer with the KFCACN.
“Any time you feel a child may be at risk for abuse or neglect, you should contact Family and Children’s Services immediately,” added Jack. “FACS is our mandated child protection service for Niagara and can be reached 24/7 at (905) 937-7731.”
Thousands of children and families in Niagara are impacted by child abuse and neglect every year. No one is immune and the only solution is education, awareness and speaking out. PECAN provides valuable information and the ability to access whatever kind of assistance may be needed.
