Niagara Mayors to “Stomp out Poverty” at Annual Mayor’s Grape Stomp

City Councillor Bonnie Fokkens will be representing the City of Welland at the 42nd Annual JCI St. Catharines’ Mayor’s Invitational Grape Stomp on September 19th. This year, host Mayor Walter Sendzik has challenged Niagara’s Mayors to support local charity organizations and help “stomp out poverty”.

Councillor Fokkens will be stomping in support of Open Arms Mission of Welland Inc and The Hope Centre. Please bring your donations of non- perishable food items to Welland City Hall, 60 East Main Street Monday – Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Partnering with Grape Growers of Ontario, JCI St. Catharines and Skycomp Solutions, Niagara’s Mayors will be working together to help stomp out poverty by collecting non- perishable food items between Sept. 1st and 18th. Members of the public are encouraged to donate and help raise the most food for food banks in each community. Join in on the tradition of the Grape Stomp featuring other heats with participation from Grape Growers, Emergency Services and more.

Then on Saturday, Sept. 19 at 12:00 p.m. at Montebello Park in downtown St. Catharines, the Mayors will take to the grape barrels for the traditional stomping of the grapes and compete to make the most grape juice. The volume of the stomped grape juice plus the total volume of donations will determine the winner of this year’s Mayor’s Grape Stomp.

Everyone is welcome to participate in the challenge and help stomp out poverty and hunger in Niagara. Get the latest updates from the Mayors by following @stomppoverty on twitter. Help your Mayor raise the most food in the stomp by dropping off donations. Participating Mayors will collect donations for the Mayors’ Grape Stomp at:
