The Welland Winter Lights Committee invites you to show off your winter spirit! In keeping with energy conservation best practices, all houses entered must use energy efficient lighting (Exclusively LED or fluorescent lights).

Houses will be judged on the following criteria: Balance/Suitability • Colour/Special • Innovation/Creativity/Fun • Buzz” Factor

Do you have a beautifully lit house in your neighbourhood? Nomination forms are being accepted as of November 16 at Civic Square (60 East Main Street) and the Welland Community Wellness Complex (145 Lincoln Street).

A group of prominent community ambassadors of innovation and entrepreneurship in Niagara are to be honoured at the inaugural Patron of Innovation reception at Innovate Niagara on Thursday, November 19th.  The inaugural inductees include former Innovate Niagara Board Members, industry leaders, and community builders. Mr. Nick DiPietro, Dr. Rosemary Hale, Dr. Jack Lightstone, Mr. Joe McCallum, Mr. Terry O’Malley, and Dr. Dan Patterson will be celebrated for their support and ambassadorship of innovation in Niagara.

Seven new works painted by local students were unveiled last week at the Welland Community Wellness Centre.

The City of Welland in partnership with the Region of Niagara invited local artists and collaborative art groups to participate in SPARC: Sustainable Public Art Revitalizing Community.

This mural project paired elementary and high school students with local artists to create the murals in a celebration of Public Art.

When he left for Ecuador, he was a young culinary graduate representing his college and his country; by the time he returned, he was an international medalist. Justin Beaulne, 21, has won the bronze medal at the Hans Bueschkens Young Chefs Challenge, held in Quito, Ecuador at the end of October. Part of the Global Chefs Challenge which draws the best chefs in the world to compete, the Young Chefs Challenge is a category for age 25 and younger.

My friends at Urge to Purge are having their 1st Annual Garage Sale at 144 A Thorold Road in Welland on November 14th 2015. The sale will be from 8 am-1 pm.​ The description given is as follows: “Lots of new and gently used housewares, pictures, furniture, cleaning products, decorative pieces, holiday décor, and children’s toys. Proceeds raised will go to sponsoring less fortunate families at Christmas through the Hope Centre. “

 

Here’s my print from June 1957. A picture of the memorial was the first picture that I took for The Tribune after I arrived in the big city of Welland, from the hamlet of Sherkston, a few days before my 18th birthday in 1957.
