Youth from across the province, who are participating as Young Leaders for Biodiversity at Ontario’s first biodiversity summit, have Niagara College marked on their agendas for a full-day learning experience.

The rowing regatta at Dain City was the big show in town this weekend. I spent a couple hours there Saturday and was overwhelmed by the sheer logistics of the event, the camaraderie, the athletes, the spectators, the rowing “community” that sprung up around the boat house facilities, and more. Kudos to the South Niagara Rowing Club for their two-day high school invitational.

In this video presentation, NCF Executive Director Liz Palmieri discusses the importance of sharing stories of the lives that the Niagara Community Foundation has touched through donors, charities, advisors & community collaboration.

Together with Healthy Living Niagara, The Welland/Pelham Chamber of Commerce is giving you more reasons to shop local, and enjoy an active and healthy lifestyle while doing it. On June first, the Chamber is excited to launch the Welland Bike Friendly Business Network. For the Months of June, July and August 2015, Select Businesses throughout Welland and Pelham will be participating in this trial initiative to promote healthy lifestyles and encourage citizens to eat and shop locally. All participating businesses will be providing access to basic bike repair kits, free water bottle refills, and use of restrooms.

It certainly wasn’t a trip into enemy territory but lots of observation went on. Last Thursday , four members of the Downtown Welland BIA went on a reconnaissance field trip. We were are diverse group:  Julie Barker from McNall and Barker Paralegals; Heather Hudson who owns and is rehabilitating a building in downtown Welland, Stephanie Hicks our Business Development Officer at the DWBIA and myself, Jacqui Eisen, co-owner of The European Pantry.  Our investigative foray included visits to several other downtowns in the Niagara Region to gain insights into what attributes contribute to a healthy downtown community.

The Welland Recreational Canal Corporation is excited to announce it has received direction from the City to launch the Welland Canoe Rental Program this May long weekend. It will be open Saturday, Sunday, and Monday from 10 am till dusk – make a splash this weekend!
