This Weekend! 2019 AIR RACE CLASSIC Finishes at the Niagara Central Dorothy Rungeling Airport

IT’S A BIRD, IT’S A PLANE!---NO! IT’S 50 PLANES COMPETING IN THE 2019 AIR RACE CLASSIC!

For the first time in more than a decade, the international 2019 Air Race Classic will be soaring into Canada, and finishing here at the Niagara Central Dorothy Rungeling Airport on June 21st. More than 50 teams of female pilots of all ages will race and compete for the best time and the top prize of $5,000. Since our airport is named after Dorothy Rungeling, who recently passed away and was a pioneer in female aviation in Niagara, what event could be more fitting?

A plaque will be unveiled in honor of Ms. Rungeling to commemorate this historical racing event, which tests the skills andtraining of female pilots. The race encompasses 2,400 miles across various parts of the U.S. before finishing here. Renowned female pilot, Amelia Earhart, who was a part of the original female flight team, known as the Powder Puff Derbyin the U.S. in the 1930’s, and laterbecame The 99’s flew in the Air Race Classic many years ago. What’s in it for you? A whole lot of fun! Once the pilots land here, airplane rides, a meet and greet with the pilots, and tandem jumping by Skydive Niagara are just some of the activities. There will be many displays on site for the whole family to enjoy. It is an exciting learning experience.

Food and beverages will be available. Just kicking back and watching planes crisscross the sky, and people skydiving and landing in the field is worth the trip to our scenic spot along the Welland River
