A voluntary women's organization whose primary purpose is to support the lives of women and girls especially in the area of education. We annually provide eight university scholarships for female graduates of each of the high schools in our district and a scholarship for a mature woman at Brock University. Monthly meetings feature speakers on a wide variety of topics and are advertised in all the local newspapers in the district. The Club also has a number of special-interest groups and occasional special events including the hosting of a fundraising Book Sale every year in October at the Niagara Regional Exhibition Grounds.We welcome new members and invite any interested women to attend the September Social meeting or any other monthly meeting.
CFUW Welland and District Unit is celebrating their 75th Anniversary in 2016 and have many exciting events planned. in keeping with one of their on-going goals, to support literacy , they have sponsored Barabara Reid a well known Canadian children's author to speak at each of Port Colborne (at 10:30), Welland (at 1:00) and Pelham (at 3) libraries on Monday, March 14th open to all free of charge.
Barbara Reid received the Governor General's Award for English Language Children's Illustration and this year has been named the Honorary Chair of Family Literacy Day. It is an honour to have her speaking to children on our area.
