The Women’s Place Book Riot
The Women’s Place Book Riot will return to the Gale Centre for its 42nd installment this June 5-9, starting with the popular pre-sale on the evening of June 5. This annual second-hand book sale, (which organizers believe is Canada’s biggest and best!) will aim to raise over $70,000 in support of survivors of domestic violence in South Niagara. This year’s venue has once again been generously donated by the City of Niagara Falls. Home Instead Senior Care and Apple Self Storage both return as Major Sponsors for the 2019 event.
WHO: Proceeds from this event support the domestic violence shelters operated by Women’s Place in Niagara Falls (Nova House) and Welland (Serenity Place). Women’s Place provides safe shelter, counselling, legal support and housing support to hundreds of women and children annually.
WHAT: This annual book sale, which fills most of a hockey rink with sale items donated by community members, includes fiction and non-fiction tiles, music (CDs & vinyl), DVDS, video games, games and puzzles. Most titles will cost $2.50 with some items individually priced (i.e., recent fiction).
Fudge (provided by Maple Leaf Fudge in Niagara-on-the-Lake), 50/50 tickets and purple “Wrapped in Courage” scarves will also be available.
