Taking a moment to enjoy a meal overlooking the canal in Welland, you may note on the upper north wall of one of the new city eateries a local catch phrase – “It’s All Welland Good.” And it truly is with an amazing 2015 for the downtown and 2016 poised for further growth.   Three new eateries were joined by another 15 new business establishments in the downtown, ranging from quality home furnishings to homemade pet food and treats. Both the established and new businesses have been and will continue to see more colour come into the downtown.  The keynote success story and colour highlight is the lighting of Bridge #13. The vision of 2012 came to fruition on July 1st with the new energy efficient LED coloured lighting on the historical structure, not only providing a spectacular sight but having a worldwide reach.

The year ahead promises to be an exciting year as the BIA is spearheading a comprehensive new series of initiatives to support the revitilization of the Downtown core.  A big part of the plan is the establishment of a Business Development staff position to coordinate the implementation of the strategy. This job is now in the capable hands of social media saavy, Stephanie Hicks.  Stephanie has a background in social media, event planning, sales and management, and will be using the breadth of her skills in the months to come.
