Ric Nattress was a solid positional defenceman. He played over 500 regular season games for five different teams and helped the Calgary Flames win the Stanley Cup in 1989. The native of Hamilton, Ontario was drafted 27th overall by the Montreal Canadiens in the 1980 NHL Entry Draft after a fine rookie season with the Brantford Alexanders of the OHA.
The exhibit tells the story of the ship's actions in the War of 1812, the discovery of the wreck on the Southampton Beach, the archaeological excavation of the hull and, after years of research, the identification of the hull as HMS General Hunter. The exhibit includes Virtual Reality experiences with interactive 3D replicas of the exterior and interior of the ship, videos of the ship in action at the famous Battle of Lake Erie, and interpretive panels covering the discovery, excavation and identification of HMS General Hunter . The gallery will also feature a look at other shipwrecks on the Great Lakes.

The Welland Museum is having a Murder Mystery Fundraiser on April 29th at the Welland Rose City Legion. Come out for a night of dinner, entertainment, and silent auction. Tickets are $40/person or $35/person when booking a table of 8. Tickets can be book online or by phone.
Far too often the accomplishments of First Nations, Inuit and Metis in the military are neglected. The Welland Museum is pleased to welcome guest speaker and proud warrior WO Sheldon Quinn of the PPCLI, who will comment on Canadian Aboriginal military involvement from the War of 1812 to the present day. Quinn is a serving Warrant Officer and a member of Saddle Cree Nation in the Treaty Six Territory of Alberta, who saw action in several key military operations including Afghanistan.
The Welland Museum is pleased to announce our summer movie schedule! Happening on selected Thursday evenings and Saturday afternoon’s, the Museum will be showing war films to accompany the opening of a new exhibit, Niagara and the Great Wars.
The next speaker in our Niagara and the Great Wars speaker series is Kathleen Powell’s presentation on Canal Workers and Veterans. The talk takes place on Saturday June 4, 2016 and begins at 2:00pm. Pre-registration is required. Tickets are $10 each. To register, please call 905-732-2215.
Alex Boucher, a 103 year old Metis Veteran, will be at the Welland Museum for a book signing on June 18, 2016. The event runs from 2pm – 3pm, and is presented by the Metis Nation of Ontario Veteran’s Council.
The Welland Museum will once again be hosting their Annual Christmas Open House on Saturday December 5, 2015. The event will take place at the Museum and runs from 10am - 4pm. The day will consist of crafts, hot beverages, and snacks. Be sure to stop at the gift shop, which is stocked with unique gifts from local crafters, artists and vendors. It is also home to the "It's All Welland Good" t-shirts. This year, the Welland Museum is also offering photos with Santa for $5.00 each. The Santa, as pictured in the poster, will be here from 12 - 2 pm. Lastly, visitors are asked to kindly bring a non-perishable food item for donation to a local organization.

The Welland Public Library and the Welland Museum are joining forces to bring a night of fun to Welland. Together, they are hosting a Trivia Night on Friday, November 6th at Riverstone Event Centre. The Trivia Night will include eight rounds of trivia questions, a silent auction in support of the Library and a 50/50 draw in support of the Museum. Doors open at 6:30pm and trivia begins at 7:30pm. A cash bar will be available and guests will be filled with hot and cold food platters consistently throughout the night.
The Welland Museum will be holding a general meeting to elect the new board of management on Wednesday May 27 from 7 - 8pm. The meeting will be located at the Museum on 140 King Street and is a free event open to museum members.
